Bulldogs Edge Catamounts in SoCon Elimination Clash, Floyd Tosses Eight For Win

GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Bulldogs secured a narrow victory over Western Carolina with an 11-10 score, bolstered by a five-run performance in the fifth inning. George Derrick Floyd pitched eight innings to achieve the win.

How It Happened
  • The Bulldogs scored in the bottom of the first inning with an Anthony Hausner RBI single, bringing TJ Anderson home from second base, making the score 1-0.
  • A solo home run by Brayden Corn put the Catamounts on the board in the top of the third, tying the game at 1-1.
  • The Citadel scored three runs in the bottom of the third inning, with TJ Anderson driving in Travis Elliott. Hausner then hit a two-run home run to right field, giving the Bulldogs a 4-1 lead.
  • The Catamounts cut the lead to two runs with a solo home run by Jack Spyke, making it 4-2 in the top of the fourth inning.
  • Western Carolina scored two runs in the top of the fifth inning with an RBI groundout and a runner crossing home plate on a wild pitch, tying the game at 4-4.
  • The Bulldogs took a 9-4 lead, scoring five runs in the fifth inning thanks to a bases-loaded hit by pitch from Lane Tobin, a two-run RBI double by Matthew Lively, and an RBI single from Aryan Patel.
  • The Catamounts cut the lead to three runs during a six-run inning with a two-run RBI double, bringing the score to 9-7.
  • Matthew Lively stole home on a designed steal play, giving the Bulldogs a 10-7 lead in the seventh inning.
  • Garrett Fulmer drove Hausner in to give the Bulldogs an 11-8 advantage over the Catamounts.
  • Western Carolina scored three runs in the top of the ninth, making it a one-run game at 11-10. However, it wasn't enough as Maddox Webb struck out the batter to end the game.

  • The Bulldogs' 11 runs are the most in a conference tournament game since 2015, when they scored 10 against VMI.
