Bulldogs Split Doubleheader Against Spartans; The Citadel Takes the Series

GREENSBORO, N.C. The Citadel split the doubleheader against UNCG, winning 8-7 and losing 18-3. The Bulldogs take their second straight SoCon series. 
 
Game One

How It Happened
  • UNCG scored the first two runs of the game at the bottom of the first with an RBI triple and an RBI groundout to make it 2-0.
  • The Bulldogs scored with an RBI double from Matthew Lively, bringing in Thomas Rollauer and narrowing the score to 2-1 in the top of the second inning.
  • TJ Anderson hit a solo home run in the third inning to tie the game at 2-2.
  • The Bulldogs plated four runs in the top of the fourth from a Robbie Lane RBI single to right field.
  • The Bulldogs capitalized on a throwing error made by the Spartans, allowing Lane and Rollauer to score and extending the lead to 5-2.  
  • Phillips Daniels doubled down the right-field line, scoring Garrett Dill and giving the Bulldogs a four-run lead at 6-2.  
  • A sacrifice fly RBI from the Spartans in the fourth inning narrowed the Bulldogs' lead to three runs.  
  • The Spartans narrowed the gap in the seventh inning with an RBI single from Jacob Budzik, making it a two-run ballgame at 6-4.
  • The Bulldogs added two insurance runs in the eighth inning with an RBI single from TJ Anderson to right field and a sacrifice fly from Travis Elliott, making the score 8-4.

  • UNCG scored seven runs in the third inning to give them an 8-0 lead after three innings.
  • The Bulldogs scored three runs in the bottom of the third inning with an RBI groundout from Anthony Hausner and a two-run home run from Garrett Fulmer to make it 8-3.
  • The Spartans scored nine runs in the fourth inning to extend their lead to 17-3 and added one more in the sixth inning, concluding the game at 18-3 after seven innings.
