CLINTON, S.C. -- In spite of a dominant statistical performance, The Citadel women's soccer program logged a draw in the team's season-opening clash at Presbyterian, closing out the contest against the Blue Hose knotted at 0-0 on Thursday evening at Martin Stadium.
Offensively, the Bulldogs outgunned Presbyterian in both shots (17-to-14) and shots-on-goal (10-to-3), notably coming alive in the second half with 13 of the squad's total 17 attempts. The Citadel also finished with a 7-to-3 advantage in corner kicks.
"Great effort on the road for our first match," head coach
Ciaran Traquair said. 'Took us a while to get into stride and didn't really do enough first half to get control of the game. Second half we were on the ascendancy and probably deserved to get the win. Proud of the girls defensive efforts and the courage to manage the ball to get control of the game. Good lesson for our squad on the challenges of road games this early in the season. We got better as the game went on, really encouraged by the effort."
Individually, graduate transfer
Alice Williamson paced the team with five total shots and two shots-on-goal while sophomore
Reagan Wise and true freshman
Cameron Martin each contributed two shots-on-goal as well. True freshman keeper
Lizzy Passwaters handled all 90 minutes in goal, swiping three saves on the night.
The Bulldogs also picked up a pair of yellow cards, one for
Ally Stickney in the first half and the other for
Ariana Paez in the second.
