Late Goals Doom Women's Soccer in Road Clash at Winthrop, 2-1

ROCK HILL, S.C. -- Despite a highlight-worthy score from Adrienne Trerotola and an overall dominant performance throughout, The Citadel women's soccer program stumbled late against in-state adversary Winthrop, surrendering a pair of goals to the Eagles inside the final 10 minutes en route to an eventual 2-1 loss Thursday evening at Eagle Field.

Offensively, the Bulldogs won the day outright, registering 14-to-6 shot advantage as well as a 3-to-0 edge in corner kicks. Notably, Trerotola impressed with her goal late in the opening half, lacing a shot from just outside the box off a one-hop deflection into the upper-right corner of the net, good for the first Citadel score of the season.

"We've lost the game from a fairly comfortable position," head coach Ciaran Traquair said. "After being comfortable for large spells, we had to manage the game in the final 15 minutes. A tough lesson for us to learn this early in the season, that you have to manage your lead and make it difficult for the opponent to gain any momentum. We made two errors and got punished. Plenty of positives from the overall performance and once we will review to help make the group better as we prepare for our next challenge."

Individually, Yohiki Kitadai composed a solid match with three shots overall while Samantha Grantham, Alice Williamson and Ariana Paez contributed two apiece to the stat sheet. In goal, Lizzy Passwaters recorded another full 90 minutes of action, swiping two saves on the day while allowing the pair of late scores.

For the second match in a row, Ally Stickney logged a yellow card.
