Williamson Late Goal Lifts The Citadel Past SC State, 1-0

ORANGEBURG, S.C. Alice Williamson scored the go-ahead goal in the 78' to secure the first victory for the Bulldogs on the season, besting South Carolina State via a 1-0 margin Thursday evening at Oliver C. Dawson Stadium.

Williamson logged the only goal inside the final stretch of the match behind a shot to the lower-right corner, picking up an assist from Ariana Paez. Offensively, the Bulldogs outgunned SC State in both total shots (12-to-2) and shots on goal (5-to-1).

"Excellent win on the road," head coach Ciaran Traquair said. "The girls persevered and kept probing to find a goal and deserved to take the lead. SC State make it very difficult and it's a really tough place to play. Our preparation was good through the week and it definitely helped us find that winning score. Shutouts on the road aren't easy, credit to the collective this evening on managing the game and finding the victory."

Individually, Williamson registered her first goal of the season while Elisa Fuentes led the Bulldogs with four total shots and two shots on goal. Ally Stickney and Yoshiki Kitadai both had a shot on goal with Paez recording her first assist of the season. Lizzy Passwaters and Charlotte Seay played all 90 minutes, with the former swiping one save.
