CHARLESTON, S.C. – In spite of a well-fought first half, The Citadel women's soccer program faltered in the team's home opener against non-conference foe Stetson, surrrendering a trio of goals to the Hatters following the midway break en route to a 3-0 loss Sunday afternoon at WLI Field.
Overall, The Citadel and Stetson proved relatively evenly matched in virtually every offensive category save goals, as the Hatters held the edge in shots (11-to-10) and shots-on-goal (7-to-3) while the Bulldogs dominated in corner kick opportunities (7-to-1). Stetson originally took control early in the second period, finding the back of the net on a free kick just outside the box following a yellow card for
Charlotte Seay, before solidifying the win with an insurance score later at the 64'.
Individually,
Alice Williamson led the way for The Citadel, posting three shots with one coming on goal, while
Samantha Grantham followed not far behind with two attempts of her own.
Lizzy Passwaters notched a majority of the game in net (67') with two recorded saves before
Zoe Santos took over for the final 23', logging a pair of saves as well.
On the match, the Hatters picked up three yellow cards while the Bulldogs finished with two --
Ariana Paez at the 17' followed by Seay later in the 52'.
