CHARLESTON, S.C. — Alixandria Fletcher netted the first goal of her collegiate career while Zoe Santos recorded six saves as The Citadel (3-1-1, 0-0-0 SoCon) earned a 1-0 victory over Winthrop (2-3-1, 0-0-0 Big South) on Sunday afternoon at Washington Light Infantry Field.

The victory marked the Bulldogs' third consecutive win, notably posting a clean sheet in each. The Citadel's 3-1-1 record is its best start through five matches since opening the 2024 campaign 4-0-1, while the three-game winning streak is its first since beginning that same 2024 season with three consecutive victories.

Fletcher broke the scoreless tie at 64:41 with an unassisted left-footed strike as The Citadel improved to 2-1 in its last three matchups against the Eagles.

First Half

Santos made her first save at 9:13, denying Winthrop's Lila Bowers to keep the match scoreless.
Fletcher registered The Citadel's first attempt at 10:21 before Santos made another stop on Monssi Avila-Gutierrez at 13:45.
Adrianna Gill nearly opened the scoring at 27:40, sending an attempt off the crossbar.
Gabrielle Macer followed with a shot on goal at 28:21 that was stopped by Winthrop goalkeeper Mia Ruffalo.
Santos denied Cordelia McIntosh at 31:11 as the teams entered halftime scoreless.

Second Half

Samantha Grantham put a dangerous attempt on target at 57:49, forcing Ruffalo to make her third save of the match.
At 64:41, Fletcher found the back of the net for her first collegiate goal, giving The Citadel a 1-0 advantage.
Santos preserved the lead with saves on Aubrey Earman at 76:42 and McIntosh at 82:28 as the Bulldogs held Winthrop scoreless through the final whistle.

The Citadel finished with a 12-11 advantage in shots, while Winthrop held a 7-4 edge in shots-on-goal. Fletcher paced the Bulldogs with three attempts, while Grantham, Macer and Jasiah Pack each recorded two.

Santos finished with six saves over 90 minutes, marking her third match this season with at least six stops. She has now totaled 25 saves while allowing just three goals through 430:43 in goal, posting a .893 save percentage and 0.63 goals-against average. The Bulldogs have now gone 318:17 without conceding a goal.

The Bulldogs return to the road to face UNC Asheville on Thursday, Sept. 3. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
