CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Citadel returns to the road on Thursday, Sept. 3, for a 6 PM match against UNC Asheville at Greenwood Soccer Field.
The Bulldogs enter the match with a 3-1-1 record following a 1-0 victory over Winthrop on Sunday. Alixandria Fletcher scored the first goal of her collegiate career in the second half, while Zoe Santos recorded six saves to preserve the clean sheet.
Previewing The Citadel
The Citadel enters Thursday on a three-match winning streak with consecutive victories over Kennesaw State, South Carolina State and Winthrop, recording a clean sheet in each contest. The Bulldogs' 3-1-1 record marks their best start through five matches since opening the 2024 season 4-0-1.
The three consecutive clean sheets mark the first time The Citadel has accomplished the feat since the 2022 season, when the Bulldogs held Charleston Southern, South Carolina State and Samford scoreless in consecutive matches from Sept. 13-23.
The Citadel has scored 12 goals while allowing just three through five matches. The Bulldogs have also gone 318:17 without conceding a goal and have yet to allow a second-half goal this season.
Samantha Grantham leads the Bulldogs with five goals and 12 points, while Jasiah Pack has recorded three goals and a team-high four assists for 10 points.
Grantham and Santos were named the Southern Conference Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, on Tuesday, marking the first weekly offensive and defensive award sweep in program history.
Santos has recorded 25 saves while allowing just three goals through 430:43 in goal. The senior goalkeeper owns a .893 save percentage and a 0.63 goals-against average, while her 25 saves rank second in the SoCon.
Previewing UNC Asheville
UNC Asheville enters Thursday with a 1-2-2 record and is coming off a 1-0 road loss at Furman on Sunday.
Asheville opened the season with a 2-2 draw against Wofford and a 3-3 draw against North Alabama before earning its first victory with a 6-0 result against Southern Wesleyan. The Bulldogs have since dropped consecutive matches against ETSU and Furman.
Lili Adams leads Asheville with three goals and seven points, while Lilly Graumann has recorded a team-high four assists.
Series History
Thursday will mark the ninth all-time meeting between The Citadel and UNC Asheville, with Asheville holding a 4-3-1 advantage in the series.
The Citadel won the previous meeting between the programs, earning a 2-1 victory on Aug. 15, 2024.
