GREENVILLE, S.C. — The Citadel (4-20, 1-11 SoCon) fell to Furman (11-12, 5-7 SoCon) 3-0 (20-25, 25-27, 14-25) on Tuesday night inside Timmons Arena.
Â
Luci Lippelgoos led the Bulldogs with 10 kills while hitting .348 and adding three total blocks, marking her third consecutive match with at least three blocks. Jess Martin collected a team-high 15 digs and one service ace, extending her streak of at least 15 digs to three matches. Allie Davison finished with a team-best 17 assists, four digs and one block assist. Jordyn Sims added six kills and three block assists.
Â
Izzy Castelloe paced Furman with eight kills and two block assists. Morgan Baldridge recorded 25 assists, six kills on nine error-free attacks and four block assists. Kennedy Seekford collected a team-high 16 digs and three assists, while Tennyson Gorman led the Paladins with five total blocks and added four kills.
Â
Despite falling short in the second set, head coach Dave Zelenock praised the Bulldogs' willingness to stay aggressive in pressure situations.
Â
"I think a big step in the right direction for us is that they didn't shy away from taking big swings," Zelenock said. "In the past, they would be more apt to tip and roll and be nervous in that situation. We got a freshman out there 20 feet off the net taking a huge rip, and that's only going to lead to good things down the road for us."
Â
Davison credited the Bulldogs' defensive effort for allowing her to create offensive opportunities against Furman.
Â
"Our defense did a really good job of keeping me in system, so I focused on reading Furman's block, trying to get my hitters one-on-one and putting them in the best position to get kills," Davison said.
