MACON, Ga. — The Citadel (8-12) dropped the program's Southern Conference opener at Mercer (19-3) behind an 11-0 decision in the first of a three-game road series against the Bears on Friday evening at OrthoGeorgia Park.
Garrett Fulmer posted the only hit for The Citadel in three at-bats, erasing a potential no-hitter via a shot into left field.
On the mound,
Will Holmes pitched 5.1 innings, striking out four while allowing eight earned runs.
Steven Trone came in to handle initial relief for 0.2 innings, facing seven batters and surrendering three runs on two hits, including a home run.
Devyn McEachron drove in five RBIs and hit a grand slam for Mercer. Garrett Lambert earned the win after throwing six hitless innings with zero unearned runs and two strikeouts.
