CHARLESTON, S.C. — The Citadel (12-14, 3-3 SoCon) faltered in the series finale against Western Carolina (18-11, 3-3 SoCon) via a 16–3 final mark on Sunday afternoon at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park.
Jayden Williams scored twice and stole two bases, adding to his team-best stolen base total (14). Notably, this marks his third consecutive game with at least two runs, and he has reached base in 16 straight games.
TJ Anderson reached base twice, thanks to a triple and two walks, while
Phillips Daniels contributed a hit and an RBI to the final box score.
Jacob Deacon took the mound to start for the Bulldogs, pitching 1.0 inning and allowing five earned runs on two hits, including a homer, with one strikeout and three walks.
Jackson Bottar followed, pitching 0.1 inning and yielding three earned runs on two hits with two walks.
Steven Trone provided 3.1 innings of relief, giving up two earned runs on five hits while striking out one without any walks.
Mason Yokum closed the game, delivering a perfect inning with one strikeout.
For the Catamounts, Walker Fox went 4-for-5 with seven RBIs, including a grand slam. Evan Myers earned the win after pitching 5.0 innings, allowing five hits, two earned runs, and recording one strikeout.
"Tough day. I just told the guys it was a rough finish to a good week. That kind of cancels out if you don't come out and play well. And I don't think we played very well at any point in the game," said head coach
Russell Triplett. "It all started on the mound. We didn't attack the zone enough, then played terrible defense, fell too far behind, and really couldn't do much on offense, especially after those two big double plays with the bases loaded. That was a momentum killer. But we'll regroup and get back at it on Tuesday."
