Late Rally Falls Short, The Citadel Edged by Wofford, 6-5

SPARTANBURG, S.C. — A late come-from-behind attempt stalled down the stretch as The Citadel (16-18, 3-5 SoCon) fell to Wofford (24-11, 7-1 SoCon) in a narrow 6–5 defeat on Saturday afternoon at Russell C. King Stadium.

Sam Dansky recorded two hits, including a double, and drove in an RBI. Aryan Patel plated two runs and collected a hit. Jayden Williams recorded two hits and scored a run. Christian Stratis crossed home plate twice as well.

Williams leads the team with a .317 batting average and has extended his on-base streak to 20 games, good for the team's longest this season.

Michael Gibson started for The Citadel, surrendering five earned runs on four hits with five walks and four strikeouts over 4.0 frames to earn the loss. CJ Van Slooten relieved Gibson, pitching 2.1 innings and giving up one earned run on three hits, with one walk and two strikeouts. Zane Davis closed the game for the Bulldogs, tossing 1.2 innings without allowing a run, surrendering only one hit, and issuing one walk.

"Too many free bases and lack of offensive execution was the difference in the game," head coach Russell Triplett said. "We continued to struggle to get a big hit with runners in scoring position but had really good AB's late that we can build on into tomorrow."

For the Terriers, Andrew Mannelly went 2-for-2 at the plate, scoring a pair of runs, notching two RBIs, and drawing two walks. Cullen Condon earned the win after pitching 5.0 innings, allowing four hits, one earned run, and four strikeouts. Champ Davis earned the save, handling the ninth inning and allowing just one hit.

The Bulldogs conclude the series against the Terriers at 1 p.m. on Sunday, April 12, at Russell C. King Field.
