SPARTANBURG, S.C. — Despite forcing a late 3-3 tie in the seventh inning, The Citadel (16-19, 3-6 SoCon) ultimately lost to Wofford (25-11, 8-1 SoCon) by a 5–3 margin on Sunday afternoon at Russell C. King Stadium.
Lane Tobin crossed home plate twice and drew three walks.
Jayden Williams delivered a double and drove in one run.
Sam Dansky, who has now recorded two or more hits in two consecutive games, posted two hits and a walk.
Bryce Coulter started for the Bulldogs, pitching 2.0 innings, allowing three hits and giving up two earned runs with two walks.
Liam Foley followed, delivering 1.2 innings with four hits and one unearned run allowed with one walk.
Trip Brown pitched 1.1 innings without allowing a hit, striking out three batters.
Andrew Buffkin closed the game, tossing 3.0 innings while surrendering five hits and two earned runs plus a pair of strikeouts to take the loss.
For the Terriers, Cade Collins and Logan Tribble each recorded three hits. PJ Fitzpatrick earned the win after pitching 1.0 inning, allowing one hit and two earned runs while striking out one. Branton Little earned the save after throwing the ninth inning without allowing a hit and striking out two.
"Very disappointing weekend. We were beaten in every phase of the game. They were the better-prepared team, and that falls on our staff and me," said head coach
Russell Triplett. "We have a tough group with a lot of pride in The Citadel. These guys will continue to work, and we know the most important games are ahead of us."
