Late Surge Sparks The Citadel, Bulldogs Down Georgia Southern, 10-3

STATESBORO, Ga. — A six-run seventh inning powered The Citadel (19-21) to a 10–3 victory over host Georgia Southern (12-28) on Wednesday night at J.I. Clements Stadium, clinching the two-game season series over the Eagles.

Phillips Daniels delivered a noteworthy offensive performance, scoring two runs, collecting three hits, and driving in two RBIs. Michael Gibson hit his third home run of the season, bringing in two RBIs along the way. TJ Anderson finished with three hits, including two doubles, and scored once. Lane Tobin contributed three hits and two RBIs while also stealing a base.

Christian Stratis tallied three hits, raising his batting average to a team-leading .315. Zach Hunt hit his team-leading eighth home run and 32nd RBI on the season.

Andrew Bowers started on the mound for The Citadel, pitching 3.0 innings without allowing a run and yielding just three hits. Zane Davis was efficient in relief, throwing 1.2 hitless innings, striking out one, and securing the win with no runs allowed. Ben Brash retired a batter in his single inning of work, maintaining control with no walks. Mason Yokum also contributed with a scoreless inning, striking out two batters and not allowing a hit. Jacob Deacon pitched the ninth, allowing one hit and one earned run while striking out two.

For the Eagles, James McCoy and Brady Christman both recorded two hits. Will Robbins earned the loss after throwing 2.1 innings, allowing one run and striking out one.

"We played complementary baseball for the first time in a while," head coach Russell Triplett said. "I thought we pitched well and played high-level defense. Bowers gave us three solid innings to start, and the bullpen came in and did a great job. We struggled offensively early, but our pitchers allowed only one run through six innings. That allowed our offense to settle in and have much better at-bats in the second half of the game."

Up Next, the Bulldogs are set to face conference opponent the UNCG Spartans for a three-game home series on April 22-24.
