Biography

2019: Appeared in all 12 games…finished with 24 tackles, 1.0 tackles-for-loss, 0.5 sacks and four quarterback hurries…posted two tackles in the season opener against Towson…made five tackles, three solo, in the victory over Western Carolina…added a half sack and two quarterback hurries in the win…matched season-high with five tackles in win over ETSU.

2018: Appeared in all 11 games, playing mostly on special teams…finished season with two tackles…made stops against VMI and Charleston Southern…made key block to spring Rod Johnson for the game-winning kickoff return against Mercer.

2017: Worked with the Bulldogs’ scout team.

2016: Sat out the season as a red-shirt.

HIGH SCHOOL: Four-year letterman at Pickens playing both sides of ball…recorded more than 2,600 all-purpose yards…named to all-conference team all four years…gained 810 yards and nine touchdowns rushing and caught 13 passes for 149 yards while adding seven tackles as senior…totaled 894 yards and 11 touchdowns rushing and 107 yards on 10 receptions with four tackles junior season…rushed for 456 yards and six touchdowns and caught 15 passes for 233 yards and four touchdowns with five stops on defense as a sophomore…also lettered twice in baseball and earned one letter in basketball…won school’s Most Valuable Athlete academic award.

PERSONAL: Son of Travis and Heidi Covey…uncle, Mark Speir, is the head coach at Western Carolina…majoring in exercise science.
