BOONE, N.C. – Six victories, including a major decision in the 133-pound classification by Vito Pasone, helped Appalachian State earn a 21-13 decision at Varsity Gym in Sunday afternoon Southern Conference wrestling action.

The match, which opened at 165-pound classification, quickly provided Appalachian State's Nick Kee with a technical fall against Will Connell. Kee's 20-4 victory gave the Mountaineers an early 5-0 advantage.

ASU added to its early lead as Forrest Przybysz posted a 3-1 win over
Kenneth Radford in the 174 match.

The Citadel eventually fell into an 8-0 hole, when Appalachian State's Nick Vetell captured a 7-3 win over
Jack Duane for the 184 pound match.

However, the Bulldogs quickly bounced back in the 197-pound showdown between Marcus Johnson and 2014 NCAA qualifier
Marshall Haas. Haas overpowered Johnson to emerge with a 12-5 decision and provided The Citadel with its first points of the dual.

The momentum swung back to Appalachian State in the heavyweight match when Denzel Dejournette posted a 2-0 decision against
Joe Bexley. The victory moved the Mountaineers in front 14-3 heading into the intermission.

Appalachian State came out of the break in action with a 7-2 victory by Dominic Parisi over
Joaquin Marquez in the 125 weight class. That was followed by Pasone's 12-1 major decision win against The Citadel's
Aaron Hansen.

Trailing 21-3, The Citadel's Tyler Buckiso came away with a 3-2 decision against Michael Longo in the 141 match. That was followed by a
Matt Frisch 8-0 victory in the 149-pound classification against Javon Johnson.

The Dogs closed out the dual by winning three straight as 2014 NCAA Qualifier
Aaron Walker defeated Zack Strickland by an 8-3 margin. Despite the three wins to close out the event, the Mountaineers emerged 21-13.

The Bulldogs next match will take place at McAlister Field House against Southern Illinois-Edwardsville at on Jan. 25 at 1 p.m.
