CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Citadel baseball team opens its 2015 season this weekend with a three-game series against Air Force at Riley Park.
The series schedule has been altered by the forecast of colder weather in the Charleston area. The teams will play Friday at 4 p.m. (an hour earlier than originally scheduled) and square off in a doubleheader Saturday at noon. There will be no game on Sunday.
All three games will be available free of charge on the SoCon Digital Network with
Andy Solomon and Chief Rusty Thomas calling the action.
Fans presenting military ID will receive $4 admission both days, half off the regular ticket price. On Friday, free magnet schedules will be given out courtesy of Overhead Door of Charleston, and the first baseball bingo of the season, presented by Allstate, takes place on Saturday.
Individual game tickets can be purchased at the ticket window at Riley Park, which opens one hour prior to first pitch. Punch cards, good for 36 admissions throughout the season, will also be available.
This marks just the second time that The Citadel and Air Force are meeting on the diamond, with the Bulldogs sweeping a four-game series at Riley Park in 2009. The Citadel is looking to rebound from a 24-34 season a year ago while the Falcons finished 20-34 and tied for sixth in the Mountain West Conference.
Redshirt junior left-hander
James Reeves starts on Friday for the Bulldogs, making his first appearance since last March 30 against Elon. Reeves was off to an outstanding start, including wins over Virginia Tech and Nebraska and a 15-strikeout performance against Davidson, before being sidelined by an elbow injury.
Junior right-handers
Austin Livingston and
Austin Mason are scheduled to start the two games on Saturday. Righties Griffin Jax and Steven Trojan and southpaw Jacob DeVries are slated to start for Air Force.
The Bulldogs are on the road for the first time on Tuesday when they travel to Jacksonville to take on North Florida at 5 p.m. The Citadel faces College of Charleston next weekend, with games at Patriots Point on Friday (3 p.m.) and Sunday (1 p.m.) and Riley Park on Saturday (2 p.m.).
