ETSU Downs The Citadel 67-51

CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Citadel basketball team (10-18, 3-12) dropped a home contest 67-51 to East Tennessee State (18-10, 11-4) at McAlister Field House on Thursday night. Senior Derrick Henry notched 11 points to lead the Bulldogs on a cold shooting night from the field while freshman Quayson Williams chipped in 11 points in just his fifth career start.

Freshman Zane Najdawi added eight points, five rebounds and a career-high six blocks off the bench. Najdawi now has 55 blocked shots this season, becoming only the second player in The Citadel history to collect more than 50 swats in a single campaign.

The Citadel played a stout game defensively, holding ETSU to just 39.7 percent from the floor. That marks the Bulldogs' best field goal percentage defense in Southern Conference play. Head coach Duggar Baucom's team forced 21 turnovers and have now caused 20 or more turnovers in a game nine times this season.

The Bulldogs struggled to get going offensively and only managed to convert five three-pointers in the loss. After falling down 29-15, The Citadel buckled down on defense to get stops and cut the deficit to three with 15:38 remaining following a three-point play by Henry. ETSU responded with a 7-0 spurt to go up by double digits again.

Freshman Connor Schroeder caught fire with less than six minutes left and made his second trifecta to pull the Bulldogs within four (52-48). Schroeder finished with eight points in 16 minutes of action. The Bucs managed to answer emphatically and polished off a road victory with a 15-3 run to close the game. Isaac Banks led ETSU with 18 rebounds and 10 points.

The Bulldogs host their final home game of the 2015-16 campaign on Saturday as they take on Western Carolina with a chance for a season sweep over the Catamounts. The Citadel's three seniors will be honored for their accomplishments on and off the court with a special ceremony before their last career game at McAlister Field House.

Saturday is also the third Pack The Mac event of the season and the entire South Carolina Corps of Cadets is set to be in attendance. $5 ticket specials are still available at PackTheMac.com. For all the latest on The Citadel basketball, follow @CitadelHoops and stay tuned to CitadelSports.com.
