CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel baseball team will take on Georgia Southern for a home-and-home series beginning Tuesday in Statesboro, Georgia, and then return home to host the Eagles on Wednesday.

The Bulldogs took both games of the two-game series from the Eagles last season. In game one on Feb. 24,
Stephen Windham finished two-for-four with two runs and two RBI to help the Bulldogs to a 3-2 win in Statesboro. The Citadel completed the series victory on March 17 with a 4-3 win inside Joe Riley Park.

The Citadel is coming off of three tough losses to Wofford over the weekend despite outhitting Wofford in two of the three games.

Georgia Southern is currently 21-15 overall and 9-9 in Sun Belt action.

• In Saturday's contest, the Bulldogs were 7-for-16 with two outs and registered 12 hits.

Stephen Windham threw out two runners attempting to steal second base in the bottom of the sixth inning on April 16, running his season total up to 18.
•
Barrett Charpia recorded the first two home runs of his career on Sunday, blasting his first homer over the left field wall in the top of the seventh inning and then launching a two-run blast into right field in the top of the ninth. The junior finished the day three-for-four with two runs and three of the team's seven total RBI.
• The Citadel had five hits in the seventh inning on Sunday forcing Wofford to use four of its seven pitchers in the seventh frame alone.
• The Bulldogs received 22 free passes from Wofford over the weekend, the most walks the team has drawn in a three-game series all season.
• With a hit in every game of the series this past weekend,
Stephen Windham has extended his reached base streak to 14 games.
• The Citadel swept the two game series against Georgia Southern last year, taking the first game in Statesboro, Georgia, 3-2 and then posting a 4-3 victory over the Eagles at Joe Riley Park on March 15.
• Since 1965, The Bulldogs hold an 18-11 advantage over the Eagles inside Joe Riley Park.
• 2016 marks the 20th year of The Citadel playing along the banks of the Ashley River at Joseph P. Riley Park.

Jason Smith all had at least one hit in every game of the three-game series at Wofford.

Ben Peden blasted the third home run of his career at Wofford on Friday night to give the Bulldogs a 3-2 lead.

Steven Hansen tallied his first two doubles of the season, smacking two against Wofford on Saturday to plate two runs. The senior finished the day three-for-four.

Bret Hines had a productive outing at the dish over the weekend, going 5-for-12 with three RBI and two runs scored.

Shy Phillips also had a strong outing for the 'Dogs at the plate. The sophomore tallied four hits, including three on Sunday, in the three-game series and scored a couple of runs and plated two RBI.
• The Citadel continues to do its damage in the latter half of the game, scoring 84 of its 157 runs after the 5th inning.

Mike Deese leads the team with nine multiple-hit games this season. The next closest is
Stephen Windham with six. Deese also has a six-game hitting streak.
• The Citadel pitching staff ranks third in the Southern Conference with a 5.77 ERA and fifth with opponents averaging a .292 batting average against them.
• Saturday starter
Thomas Byelick matched his career high with eight strikeouts against Wofford on April 16. The righty threw 5.1 innings in his ninth start this season.
• The Bulldogs have recorded nine double-digit strikeout games in 2016.
• The 21 combined strikeout performance by
JP Sears and
Kyle Smith on March 25 at VMI ranks third-best in the country in a single game this season. Sears' 19 K performance in the contest is the most in a single game in the NCAA this season.
