CHARLESTON, S.C.
– The Citadel baseball team will host Southern Conference rival Furman this weekend for a three-game series beginning on Saturday inside Joe Riley Park.

Furman brings a 17-24 overall record to Charleston and is tied with the Bulldogs for sixth in SoCon play with a 5-7 record.

Saturday's doubleheader, sponsored by Substation II, will begin at 1 p.m. with the second game following 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first. The series will wrap up on Sunday with a 1 p.m. start. Live stats, audio and video will be available at CitadelSports.com for the game. Notes:
• Clay Martin, Cole Buffington, Shy Phillips and Stephen Windham each had singles in the 15-4 loss at Charlotte on Tuesday.
• Bret Hines drove in his 13th and 14th RBI of the year with a double down the right field line in the top of the ninth and Barrett Charpia tacked on two more runs for the Bulldogs in the same frame, crushing his third double of the year to deep left center field.
• Taylor Cothran made his 15th appearance of the year, playing two innings in left field.
• The Citadel used four freshmen hurlers in Tuesday's contest.
• The Citadel took the last series of the season at Furman last year winning the first game 5-4 in 10 innings and then clinching the series with a 1-0 win in Sunday's rubber match.
• Dating back to 2012, The Citadel has won the last four series between the two schools.
• The Citadel owns the top-two positions on the Southern Conference's all-time wins list. After Coach Jordan's 813 wins, former Bulldog coach Chal Port ranks second with 641 wins. The closest active SoCon head coach is Furman's Ron Smith with 568 career wins.
• Since 1965, the Bulldogs have shut out Furman five times with the most recent game coming in April of 2013 when now-assistant coach Austin Pritcher blanked the Paladins 6-0. The only other school The Citadel has shut out as many times in the same time frame is fellow SoCon member Western Carolina.
• 2016 marks the 20th year of The Citadel playing along the banks of the Ashley River at Joseph P. Riley Park.
• The first game at the Joe came on April 6, 1997, against Western Carolina and the first pitch was fouled into the marsh. The Bulldogs eventually went on to win the game thanks to a walkoff home run by Ryan Butler.
• Head coach Fred Jordan is the only Citadel skipper to have ever coached at Joe Riley and has amassed a 426-240 (.642) record during his 20 seasons there.
• Including this season, The Citadel has played 666 games at the Joe.
• The largest crowd to ever take in a Citadel game was on April 16, 2014, when the Bulldogs hosted South Carolina in front of 6,500 fans. Earlier this season, 6,298 fans were in attendance for The Citadel's game against the Gamecocks on March 1.
• The Bulldogs have recorded 10 double-digit hit games this season, most recently knocking 10 hits against Western Carolina on April 24.
• The Citadel continues to do its damage in the latter half of the game, scoring 94 of its 176 runs after the 5th inning.
• Mike Deese leads the team with 10 multiple-hit games this season.
• Stephen Windham's reached-base-safely streak was halted against Western Carolina at a team-best 17 games. The senior had a hit in Friday's contest but was then unable to connect in Saturday's matchup.
• The Citadel pitching staff has allowed the fewest home runs in the Southern Conference this season with 21. They rank fifth in the conference in ERA (6.06), opposing batting average (.295) and batters struck out (320).
• Jacob Watcher tossed 5.0 effective innings against the Catamounts on Sunday en route to his fifth win this season. The sophomore allowed just one hit in the first four innings of the game.
• Zach Lavery picked up his sixth and seventh saves of the season on Friday and Sunday against Western Carolina, marking the second time this season that he has picked up two saves in one three-game series.
• Junior Chris Kellahan made his collegiate debut on the mound for the Bulldogs on Saturday against Western Carolina, striking out one in one inning of work.
• The Bulldogs turned a double play in each game of the series over the weekend, marking the first time this year that The Citadel has turned a double play in every game of a three-game series.
• The Bulldogs have recorded double-digit strikeout totals 10 times in 2016, most recently striking out 10 against Georgia Southern on April 20.
• The 21 combined strikeout performance by JP Sears and Kyle Smith on March 25 at VMI ranks fourth-best in the country in a single game this season. Sears' 19 K performance in the contest is the most in a single game in the NCAA this season. Sears finished one shy of Rodney Hancock's school- leading performance, who fanned 20 and threw just the fourth no-hitter in school history against Furman on May 19, 1999.
