4/29/2016 8:52:00 AM | Men's Track & Field
CHARLESTON, S.C. – Graduate senior Capers Williamson will represent The Citadel at the famed Penn Relays on Saturday. The world-renowned event at the University of Pennsylvania's Franklin Field hosts more than 22,000 entrants annually and features some of the top competition from across the globe.
Williamson is set to take on the field in the college men's javelin championship at the Penn Relays, facing 11 other talented throwers. That event is slated to begin at 11:15 a.m. ET.
Six of the 12 javelinists in the field rank in the top 30 nationally. Williamson currently ranks 26th in Division I with a Southern Conference record heave of 231 feet, 5 inches at the Bill Carson Invitational in early April. The senior hasn't thrown in an event since that performance as he prepares for a run to the NCAA Championships in late May. He's claimed a new league record each time he's competed this season.
Williamson has garnered Southern Conference Men's Field Athlete of the Week honors twice and received SoCon Men's Field Athlete of the Month recognition for the month of March. He has set The Citadel's school record in the javelin throw three times during his career, including twice during the 2016 outdoor campaign.
