CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel baseball team will travel to No. 10 South Carolina on Tuesday for the final midweek game of the year.

The Bulldogs dropped three close games to Samford over the weekend, losing by one run in two of the three contests. The Citadel has now played in 14 one-run games this season.

The Citadel's bats have caught fire in the month of May, tallying five double-digit hit games in the eight games during the month. The Bulldogs have recorded 16 double-digit hit games this season, most recently knocking 10 hits in the series finale against Samford May 15.

South Carolina is 38-13 this year and comes into the game on a one-game winning streak, having defeated No. 2 Texas A&M Sunday.

Notes:
• The Bulldogs dropped the first game of the series against Samford 7-6, falling just one run short of a six-run comeback. The 'Dogs dropped another one-run game just a day later, falling to Samford 5-4 on a close call at second base for the final out.
• With two this past weekend against Samford, the Bulldogs have now had 14 one-run games this season.

Ben Peden hit two home runs against Samford May 14, marking the third time this year that a Bulldog has recorded two home runs in a single game.

Kyle Smith pitched at least one inning in every game this past weekend, marking the second time this season that the sophomore has thrown in every game of a series with the first time coming against Furman April 30-May 1.

• On March 1, The Citadel fell to South Carolina 6-3 in the first matchup of the season. The Bulldogs tallied six hits against the then-No. 13 Gamecocks.
• Freshman pitcher
Johnny Croley tossed a career-high 3.1 innings against South Carolina, scattering five hits and allowing just one run.
• Of the Bulldogs' 56 games this season, 22 are against opponents from the state of South Carolina. This will be the final game of the regular season against an in-state foe and the final midweek game for the 2016 season.

Stephen Windham has reached base safely in 12 straight games and picked up his 11th multiple-hit game of the season Sunday against Samford. After tallying two singles on May 11 against Winthrop, Windham broke the 100-hit plateau for his career. The senior now has 104 hits during his time at The Citadel.
• The Citadel hit five home runs in the series with Mercer, tying the previous season-high five they launched in the series at VMI March 25-27.
• The 35 hits the Bulldogs collected at Mercer May 5-8 matches a series high The Citadel previously set April 15-17 at Wofford.

Mike Deese leads the team with 12 multiple-hit games this season and is tied for first on the team with five multiple-RBI games. The senior also boasts a team-best 46 hits this season, including three triples and four home runs.
• Every starter tallied a hit on May 8 at Mercer for the first time since February 26 against Siena.
• The Citadel pitching staff has allowed the second fewest home runs in the Southern Conference this season with 36 and ranks fifth with 377 batters struck out.

Jacob Watcher has given up exactly six hits in each of his last three starts on the mound.

Zach Lavery and
Kyle Smith have a combined 28 appearances in the 21 SoCon games this season.
