CHARLESTON, S.C. – Following another solid outing that saw The Citadel co-ed rifle team post its season-best aggregate point total on Saturday, Oct. 28, the Bulldogs have moved up a spot in this week's College Rifle Coaches Association (CRCA) Poll, coming in at No. 21.
The weekly rankings are based on a team's most recent score shot. The Bulldogs posted a 4584 against Georgia Southern, UAB and Wofford at home inside the Inouye Marksmanship Center on Saturday.
West Virginia remains atop the national standings with Kentucky No. 2, TCU third, Murray State fourth and Alaska Fairbanks No. 5. Ohio State, Nebraska, Memphis, N.C. State and Ole Miss round out the top-10.
On Saturday, the Bulldogs were led by freshman
Max Brabston, who shot the 34
th-best aggregate score in the nation on the week with an 1155. Brabston shot his season-best in air rifle, recording the 32
nd-best score in the nation at 585, which was good enough for third-best in the Bulldogs' home match. He was also 45
th in the country this week in smallbore with a 570.
Senior
Colton Poole shot the 37
th-best smallbore score in the nation on Saturday, posting a 572.
Junior
Allison Auten posted the 52
nd-best aggregate score in the nation over the weekend with a personal season-best 1146. She was also 46
th in the nation with a 582 in air rifle while posting a season-best 564 in smallbore.
Sophomore
Alexander McAlear posted the 58
th-best score in the nation on Saturday with a 566.
The Bulldogs will have this weekend off from outside competition before closing out the fall semester portion of the season on Saturday, Nov. 11, with a home match against the ninth-ranked Wolfpack of N.C. State and Clemson's club team.
The Citadel will host the 2018 SoCon Rifle Championships March 3-4, 2018 inside the Inouye Marksmanship Center as well as the 2018 NCAA Rifle Championships March 8-10, 2018 inside McAlister Field House. The NCAA rifle championships will mark the third national championship competition hosted at The Citadel and first since Johnson Hagood Stadium was the site of the 1983 and 1984 Division I-AA football national championship games.
