Bulldogs Travel to Tennessee for Championships

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel track and field teams will head to the Southern Conference Indoor Championships in Johnson City, Tennessee, this weekend.
Last year the men's squad finished sixth overall and the women's team placed ninth.
At last year's indoor championship, sophomore Josiah Johnson took sixth place in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.02 seconds. Johnson has since improved his time to 6.88, the fourth-fastest time in the SoCon this season and a personal best. Senior Malik Diggs finished seventh at last year's championship in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.67. This season, Diggs ranks fifth in the SoCon and second in program history with a time of 8.30.
Junior Derrick Freeland, honored as the SoCon Field Athlete of the Week on Wednesday, placed fourth overall in last season's weight throw with a toss of 50 feet, 4.75 inches. The Charlotte, North Carolina, native has since broken The Citadel's all-time record with a toss of 58 feet, 7.50 inches.
This will be freshman Jessy Page's first championship appearance after breaking The Citadel's freshman record in the 20-pound weight throw with a toss of 47-2.25. Sophomore Kameron Cass finished seventh last season in the women's shot put with a toss of 37-10.5. Cass has since been competing in the weight throw where she set a personal record and earned eighth on the all-time list with a toss of 45-1.5.
Senior Caillian Colquitt competed in the 3,000-meter and 5,000-meter races in last year's championships. This season Colquitt ranks in the top-16 in both events and ran her personal-best time of 10:38.65 in the 3,000 earlier this season to move to the No. 2 spot on the Bulldogs' all-time list.
Saturday's events are set to begin at 8:30 a.m. and finals will continue into Sunday. Live stats and all results will be available at CitadelSports.com.
