CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel baseball team dropped a non-conference game 15-1 against No. 4 South Carolina Tuesday night at Joe Riley Park.
After a 45 minute delayed start due to rain, the Gamecocks got off to a quick start with 11 runs in the first two innings. After the second inning, The Citadel pitching staff settled in to hold South Carolina to four runs over the final seven innings.
Joe Sabatini led the offense with a solo home run in the bottom of the second to account for the Bulldogs' run. The homer was Sabatini's fifth of the year.
Clay Martin extended his on-base streak to 15 games with a walk in the eighth inning.
Jeffery Brown recorded his first career single in the ninth inning when he used his speed to beat out a ground ball to third base.

Taylor Cothran each added singles for The Citadel.
The Bulldogs tied a program record with 10 different pitchers used.
Dylan Spence and
Jordan Merritt each pitched scoreless innings in the sixth and seventh, respectively.
Tuesday night's game was played in front of a season-high 4,525 fans.
The Citadel returns to conference action on Friday visiting Western Carolina for a three-game series in Cullowhee, North Carolina. It will be the first three-game series on the road for the Bulldogs.
