CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel baseball team was defeated 10-1 by the College of Charleston on Saturday at Joe Riley Park.
The Bulldogs (3-6) fell behind early, giving up two runs in the first after a two-out error extended the inning. The Cougars (6-4) added three runs in the third inning and one run in the fourth and fifth to take a commanding 7-0 lead.
The Citadel broke up the shutout in the bottom of the ninth inning when
Ben Peden scored from second base on an error by the center fielder.
Jonathan Sabo paced the offense with a 2-for-4 game at the dish.
William Kinney,
Joe Sabatini,
Bryce Leasure and
Cole Buffington accounted for the Bulldogs' other four hits.
Will Abbott started the game for The Citadel, pitching two innings with three strikeouts while allowing three earned runs.
Beau Strickland struck out two batters in a shutout frame.
Thomas Byelick pitched a scoreless inning in the ninth.
