Bulldogs Earn Three First-Place Finishes

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Citadel track and field teams competed in the USC Open on Saturday.

For the women's team, junior Mady Riegel took first place in the javelin for the fourth time this season with a launch of 138 feet, 7 inches. Riegel is ranked No. 1 in the Southern Conference this season and on The Citadel's all-time list in the javelin with a 143-0 throw at the CSU Spring Break Invitational.

Sophomore Kameron Cass finished fourth in the javelin with a toss of 120-9, and junior Asyria Daniels earned a sixth-place finish in the long jump with a leap of 16-8.00. Freshman Jessy Page finished fifth in the discus with a throw of 127-11 and eighth in the hammer throw with a toss of 158-8.

For the men's team, junior Jamie Cunningham defeated competitors from Wofford and Furman to earn a first-place finish in the 3,000-meter race with a time of 8 minutes, 52.63 seconds. Junior Malik Diggs took first place in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 52.78 and earned seventh place in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.54.

In the discus, freshman Prince Howard-Whitaker finished fourth with a heave of 153-11 and junior Derrick Freeland had a sixth-place finish with a toss of 145-6. Junior Charlie Hatler took fifth place in the javelin with a launch of 168-0, and sophomore Ja'Lon Williams finished seventh in the shot put with a toss of 47-9.

Next up on the Bulldogs' schedule are the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The meet is scheduled for Thursday, Friday and Saturday and live stats will be available at CitadelSports.com.
