The Citadel Hosts Will Wilson Invitational on Saturday

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel's cross country teams will compete in their own Will Wilson Citadel Invitational at James Island County Park in Charleston, South Carolina, on Saturday, Sept. 30.

So far this season, both the men's and women's teams have competed in the Carolina Challenge in Columbia, S.C. and the Winthrop Invitational in Spartanburg, S.C.

The women's team earned an impressive second-place finish in the 5,000-meter race with 75 total points at the Winthrop Invitational on Sept. 16. Freshman Amber Opp was the first Bulldog to cross the finish line with a time of 19 minutes, 25.75 seconds. The women's team also took fifth place in the 5K at the Carolina Challenge on Sept. 2, once again led by Opp who finished with a personal-best-time of 19:20.10.

The men's squad finished fourth in the 5K at the Carolina Challenge with 107 total points and were led by senior Jamie Cunningham with a time of 16:53.20. The men's team then competed in the 8,000 meters at the Winthrop Invitational and finished fifth overall with 117 points. Freshman Jeremy Shipley was the first to cross the finish line with a time of 27:41.77.

The women's 5,000-meter race is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. with the men following closely at 9:45 a.m. Final results will be available at the conclusion of the meet on CitadelSports.com.Â
