TROY, N.Y. – The Citadel wrestling team closed out the 2018 Journeymen Northeast Duals on Sunday, Nov. 11 in Troy, New York.
On the first day of competition, the Bulldogs dropped two duals by only two points before losing their final match to Drexel.
Dual Against Edinboro (Citadel 17, Edinboro 19)
- Jake Rotunda picked up the first victory for the team in the 133-pound weight class with a 15-9 decision.
- Rian Burris claimed another win with a 7-5 decision in a match up at 157.
- Dazjon Casto recorded his first win as a Bulldog with a major decision finishing with a score of 17-6.
- Sawyer Root and Michael McAleavey rounded out the dual with victories over their opponents at 197 and heavyweight, respectively.
Dual Against Sacred Heart (Citadel 22, Sacred Heart 24)
- Chon Porter and Casto picked up 12 points combined for The Citadel after recording pins against Sacred Heart.
- Root would record his second win of the day with a major decision against Fredericks of SHU.
- Burris and McAleavey also picked up their second consecutive win on the day with decisions at 157 and heavyweight.
The Bulldogs would drop their third and final dual against Drexel after the Dragons recorded wins in all weight classes.
On the second day of competition, The Citadel wrestling team competed as individuals.
- 133- Paddy Kearney finished in third place in the 133C bracket after going 3-2 on the day. Kearney took his victories by a fall and decision.
- 149- Chon Porter went 3-2 on the day and would take third place in the 149D bracket after recording a pin in his second match.
- Kearney and Porter were the top performers for the Bulldogs in the Journeymen Collegiate Classic.
