GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Citadel volleyball team recorded its' first program post season win over Western Carolina at the 2018 Southern Conference Championship on Friday, Nov. 16 in Greensboro, N.C.The Citadel will turn around to face ETSU at 2:30 p.m.

How It Happened
The Bulldogs got off to an early 8-4 lead against WCU but the Catamounts would battle back to take the first set.Â
- Sharlissa De Jesus led both teams with six kills hitting .308 to start the match.Â
- In the second set, WCU started out on an 8-4 run as the teams headed into a timeout.Â
- The Citadel answered with a 4-0 scoring run of their own to pull within three. Western Carolina would call a timeout leading 16-14.
- Coming out of the timeout, Mellanie King would record back-to-back aces to tie the game at 16. After a back and forth battle, the Bulldogs would secure the second-set victory with the final point coming from a third service ace from King.Â
- The Bulldogs got off to a 7-3 lead in the third set and would go on to take the win.
- De Jesus recorded back-to-back aces in the third while Sarah Dobrich got involved tallying three kills in the win. King continued to rack up stats in the third and would record the set-point kill with a kick ball over the net to catch Western off guard.
- In the fourth set, the Bulldogs would down the Cats by a final score of 25-20.

Final Stats
- Sharlissa De Jesus recorded 22 kills on 65 attempts hitting .215 in the first match up. She led the Bulldogs defensively with a career-high 35 digs and a pair of service aces.Â
- Mellanie King notched a career-high four service aces to go with 14 kills and 13 digs on the day. King tallied the set point for all three set victories. Libero, Emma Strong recorded a season-high 17 digs in the match up.
- Megan Fuhr assisted on 47 kills while tacking on 13 digs. Sarah Dobrich and Sumerlyn Carruthers aided in the offense by recording eight and seven kills, respectively.

Historical Season for The Citadel
- This is the Bulldogs first post-season win in program history and their eighth all-time victory against Western Carolina.
- The post-season victory comes off a historical season, tallying the most conference wins in history with four in the regular season.
