CENTRAL, S.C. – The Citadel men's tennis team made a side trip on the way up to the 2018 Southern Conference Tennis Championships, stopping in to play a rescheduled match with Atlantic Coast Conference foe Clemson Wednesday night. The Bulldogs dropped the match 7-0 to the Tigers.

"We were very happy to be able to play this match. It was a great setting and we faced some very tough play," said head coach Chuck Kriese. "It should prime us and help us to be ready for the conference tournament in two days. Our bottom three guys hung in there well, but Clemson was stronger. I really wish the season lasted another month or so because we have a great group of guys and they continue to work hard and grow."

Clemson (10-10) swept all three doubles matches to earn the doubles point over the Bulldogs (10-24), including a 6-1 win by the 47^th-ranked doubles tandem in the nation, Alex Favrot and Simon Baudry at No. 1 over Noah Nawabi and Gavin Stewart. Sam Edwards and Yizhou Liu defeated Matthew Henson and Will Graham 6-0 at No. 2 and Carlos Kelaidis and Marshall Dagostine bested Roy Hobson and Trey Davis 6-1 to claim No. 3.

In singles action, Graham took a game from Wes Quattleaum at No. 6, falling 6-3, 6-7 (5-7), 6-4. Henson put up a good fight at No. 1 against Favrot, who is ranked No. 66 in the nation, but ultimately dropped the matchup 6-2, 6-2. Baudry topped Nawabi 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2 singles and Liu bested Jack Pyritz 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3. Kelaidis defeated Stewart 6-2, 6-4 at No. 4 singles and Edwards defeated Hobson 7-5, 6-3 at No. 5.

UP NEXT
The Citadel will next travel to Chattanooga, Tennessee to take on No. 1 seed ETSU in the first round of the Southern Conference Championship. Action begins Friday, April 20 at 8:30 a.m. The Bulldogs will be the No. 8 seed in the upcoming tournament.
