Bulldogs Suffer Nonconference Loss at Towson

TOWSON, Md. – Running back Lorenzo Ward rushed for a career-high 180 yards in The Citadel's 44-27 loss at No. 25 Towson Saturday afternoon.

How it Happened
  • The Tigers used the big play to jump out to a 21-3 late in the first half.
  • The Bulldogs finally found the end zone with just over a minute to play as Jordan Black capped a seven-play drive with a one-yard touchdown run.
  • The Citadel took its turn at the big play in the second half as Lorenzo Ward scored on a 38-yard run.
  • On the next series, Black went around left end for a 42-yard touchdown.
  • The Tigers were able to answer back and push its lead back to 21 points with a third-quarter touchdown pass.
  • Jacob Godek closed out the scoring for the Bulldogs with a 44-yard field goal in the fourth quarter.
 
Inside the Numbers
  • Lorenzo Ward carried the ball a career-high 35 times. It was the most carries for a back since Tyler Renew carried the ball 45 times against Samford in 2016.
  • The 180-yard effort for Ward was the most since Renew's 285 yards against Samford in 2016.
  • Ward added a 24-yard reception.
  • As a team, The Citadel ran the ball 71 times for 341 yards and three touchdowns.
  • Aron Spann, III recorded his second interception of the season. Both of his interceptions have occurred in the end zone.
  • Jacob Godek connected on field goals of 30 and 44 yards. It marked the first time in his career he has hit two field goals in a game.

The Bulldogs will have an open weekend before returning to the field Oct. 13, hosting ETSU at Johnson Hagood Stadium. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.
