CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – With just over five seconds left on the game clock, Chattanooga's
Jonathan Scott missed the second of two free throws.
Lew Stallworth brought down the defensive rebound and streaked down to the opposite end of the court weaving in and out of defenders. As the seconds ticked off, Stallworth drove the lane and put up a floating layup that could have tied the game to force overtime, but the shot was just off the mark and The Citadel basketball team fell 73-71 to the Mocs in Southern Conference action.

KEY STATS
- Chattanooga opened the game on a 5-0 run before Zane Najdawi got the Bulldogs on the board with a jumper in the paint.
- Just over four minutes into the game, Hayden Brown hit his first 3-pointer of the game, giving him five points at the time, to pull the Bulldogs to within one, 8-7, of the Mocs.
- After Chattanooga stretched things back out to a six-point, 16-10 lead with 13:10 to go in the first half, Kaiden Rice and Jerry Higgins, III combined forces to pull the 'Dogs back to within one, 16-15, with a pair of free throws from Rice and a big three from Higgins.
- On the next Bulldog possession, Derek Webster, Jr. gave The Citadel its first lead of the afternoon with a field goal just outside of the paint and then Matt Frierson stretched it out to a four-point, 20-16 lead with his first 3-pointer of the game.
- With 8:47 to go in the first half, Donovann Toatley hit a jumper in the paint to give the Mocs the lead back, a lead they didn't relinquish until the 7:22 mark of the second half.
- After chipping away at the lead for much of the early going of the second half, Stallworth hit a 3-point field goal that made it a two-point, 60-58 Bulldog lead.
- After a turnover by Toatley, Rice converted a fast-break layup to make it a four-point advantage for the Bulldogs.
- Down the stretch, the two teams traded the lead back and forth five times.
- With 1:18 to play in regulation, Frierson hit his third 3-pointer of the game to make it a two-point, 69-67 Citadel advantage, but Kevin Easley matched him on the other end for the go-ahead bucket.
- In the final 19 seconds, the Mocs went 3-for-6 at the free throw line, leaving the door open for the Bulldogs to make a move.
- With just over five seconds left on the clock, it appeared the Bulldogs were poised to make some noise as Scott missed his second of two free throws and Stallworth came up with the defensive board. With the Bulldogs down just two points, Stallworth drove the length of the floor and put up a floater in the paint, but the shot bounced off the iron as time expired.
- For the game, the Bulldogs shot 42.0 percent (29-of-69) from the field, but struggled from beyond the 3-point arc, connecting on just 21.6 percent (8-of-37) of their 3-point attempts.
- The Mocs shot 48.1 percent (26-of-54) from the field for the game and made seven treys.
- Stallworth and Easley each scored a game-high 22 points. Stallworth added six rebounds and a pair of assists, while Brown chipped in 10 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, a block and three offensive rebounds.
NOTABLES
- With his 22 points Saturday afternoon, Stallworth eclipsed the 800-point mark for his career, giving him 802.
- With his three 3-pointers, Frierson is now just one trey away from matching the program record for career 3-pointers made.
- Najdawi converted four field goals on Saturday, moving him up into a tie for ninth in program history for career field goals made with 497.

The Bulldogs will remain on the road for one final game during this stretch, traveling to UNCG for a 7 p.m. game against the Spartans on Thursday, Jan. 24, before returning home for a 1 p.m. game against VMI on Saturday, Jan. 26.
