Match Preview: Bulldogs Head To UNCG

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel volleyball team will play its first road conference match this Wednesday, Oct. 2 at 6 p.m. against UNCG in Greensboro, N.C.

#BATTLEREADY (ABOUT THE CITADEL)
The Bulldogs are 4-9 overall and 0-2 in the conference heading into this weekend after dropping two home conference matches to Mercer and Samford, last week.

"We are actually very comfortable on the road. We are used to it and have the match day rhythm on the road down to a science," said head coach Dave Zelenock. "We learned last week that we can hang with the best in the conference. We're ready to be more than just competitive and we are eager to get on the road, play solid volleyball, and come home with some wins."

Senior Sarah Dobrich is now the all-time leader in program history for career blocks. The middle blocker entered the season with 324 total blocks and has amassed 32 over 13 matches this year. She now sits with 356, passing previous leader Lauren Hurt (343), with 16 regular season matches left to play.

Sharlissa De Jesus has jumped to ninth in Bulldog history for total career attacks with 2,519. She currently has 107 kills on the season, averaging 2.89 kills per set.

THE CITADEL VS THE SPARTANS (THE HISTORY)
The Citadel has a long history with UNC, stretching back to 1998. The Bulldogs are 3-31 all-time against the Spartans, with their most recent victory occurring last season, 3-1 in McAlister Field House. Three Bulldogs posted double-digit kills, with De Jesus and Dobrich recording five blocks each on the night.

SCOUTING THE SPARTANS
The Spartans of UNCG come into the weekend 6-10 overall and 0-2 in the SoCon. They dropped their first two conference matches last weekend at home to Western Carolina and ETSU. UNCG dropped both matches in just three sets.

UNCG is led on offense by Maria Esch and Emily Keilen with 192 and 125 total kills, respectively. Esch ranks fourth in the conference, averaging 3.56 kills per set. The team averages 12.46 kills per set, good for fourth in the conference, to the Bulldogs average, 10.86 kills per set.

The Bulldogs next match will be on the road in Greenville, S.C. against Furman Saturday, Oct. 5 at 6 p.m.
