HARDEEVILLE, S.C. – Thirteen runners, including seven women and six men, set season or personal records for The Citadel men's and women's cross country teams Saturday morning at the 13
th Annual Sand Shark Invitational hosted by USC Beaufort.
Both Bulldog teams finished first among NCAA Division I teams. The women's team finished third out of 19 teams overall across all divisions, while the men's team finished fourth out of 17 teams.

WOMEN'S RACE
- The women's team finished third behind SCAD Atlanta and SCAD Savannah, but beat out NCAA Division I teams Georgia Southern and South Carolina State.
- All seven runners for the women set either personal records or season records in the 5K.
- Senior Daniela Sanchez-Martinez, junior Amber Opp, and freshmen Heidi Fortin and Grace Wolfe all set personal records, while senior Jordan Neeley and juniors Casey Miller and Kenslee Padgett each set season personal records.
- Opp led the way for the Bulldogs, finishing eighth overall, and second among NCAA Division I runners, with a time of 18P21.5.
- Fortin raced to a 12th–place overall finish, and third among D-1 runners, with a time of 18:58.8.
- Miller finished 24th, seventh among NCAA Division I, with a time of 19:40.6
- Wolfe finished 32nd overall, eighth in D-1, with a time of 20:01.7.
- Sanchez-Martinez finished 38th, ninth amongst NCAA Division I runners, with a time of 20:22.4.
- Neeley wrapped up the race 42nd, 10th in D-1, with a time of 20:28.1.
- Padgett finished 14th among NCAA Division I runners with a time of 22:09.5.
MEN'S RACE
- The men's team finished fourth overall behind SCAD Atlanta, SCAD Savannah and St. Thomas (Fla.), but beat out fellow NCAA Division I team S.C. State.
- Six Bulldogs set either personal or season personal bests in the 8K.
- Sophomores Lane Johnson and Andrew McNay, and freshmen Andrew Smith, Sam Sharnas and Billy Eggers all set personal records, while senior Eric Avalos recorded a season-best in the 8K.
- Johnson led the way for the Bulldogs with a 26:56.8, finished 12th overall and second in NCAA Division I.
- Smith finished second on the team, 14th overall and third in the D-1 ranks with a time of 27:11.0.
- Sharnas made his return to the course, finishing third on the team, 15th overall and fourth in NCAA Division I with a time of 27:15.1.
- Eggers finished 29th overall, sixth in D-1, with a time of 27:58.8.
- Ty Duben finished 30th overall, and seventh in NCAA division I, with a time of 28:00.6.
- Avalos was sixth on the team, 52nd overall and ninth in D-1 with a time of 28:40.6.
- McNAy finished seventh on the team and 14th in NCAA Division I with a time of 30:36.9.
COMING UP
The Bulldogs will now be off until racing in the 2019 Southern Conference Cross Country Championships in Johnson City, Tennessee on Saturday, Nov. 2.
