Baseball Welcomes Kent State for Midweek Matchup

CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Citadel plays its first midweek game of the season as it welcomes Kent State to Joe Riley Park Feb. 27. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.

Bark in the Park
Wednesday's game is the first Bark in the Park of the season. Fans are encouraged to bring their four-legged companions to the game.

Tickets for all home games are available on CitadelSports.com/tickets or by calling the box office at 843-953-DOGS. Tickets will also be available at the stadium box office starting one hour before first pitch.

Wednesday Weather
Temperatures are expected to be near 70 degrees in the afternoon under overcast skies. Rain is in the forecast, but it is expected to be cleared out of the area by late morning.

Series History vs. Kent State
The Bulldogs and Golden Flashes are meeting for the fifth time on the diamond with the series tied 2-2. The Citadel won the most previous meeting, 13-9, in Rock Hill during the 2007 season. The other meetings came during the 1990 season with KSU winning the final two games, putting an end to the 'Dogs school record 26-game win streak.

Merritt Earns SoCon Pitching Honor
Jordan Merritt was named the Southern Conference Pitcher of the Week after allowing just one run on six hits and seven strikeouts over 7.0 innings against No. 17 Michigan.

Bastian's First Start
Catcher Will Bastian was not in awe of his first career start as he went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a walk in the series finale against Michigan.

First Collegiate Hits
A trio freshman logged their first career hits in the weekend series against Michigan. Will Bastian, Lane Botkin and Cole Simpson found the outfield grass for the first time in their careers.

McCarthy Goes Deep
Ryan McCarthy hit his first home run of the season in the ninth inning against Michigan. The blast was a solo shot to right field.

Merritt's 2nd Strong Start
Jordan Merritt turned in his second strong start of the season as he gave up just one run on six hits and seven strikeouts over 7.0 innings against No. 17 Michigan. The senior has allowed just one earned run, while striking out 16.

On Deck
The 'Dogs close out their 10-game homestand as they welcome North Alabama to Joe Riley Park March 1-3. The series opener is set for 6:30 p.m.
