STATESBORO, Ga. – A costly throwing error in the eighth inning helped Georgia Southern score three runs and hand The Citadel a 5-3 defeat Tuesday evening at J.I. Clements Stadium.

How it Happened
- The Bulldogs got the offense going in the first inning after Ryan McCarthy singled down the third-base line and was sacrificed to second by Tilo Skole.
- Tyler Corbitt drove in McCarthy with a double to left field.
- Corbitt would come around to score when Cole Simpson singled to right with two outs.
- GS got an unearned run in the home-half of the inning. A leadoff hit by pitch was aided by a wild pitch and a passed ball ahead of a RBI single from Tyler Martin.
- The Citadel added to its lead in the fourth as Wesley Lane hit the first pitch up the middle and stole second. Bryce Leasure followed with a double to left to score Lane.
- The Eagles got a run in the seventh inning after a one-out single came in to score on a single to right center from Mason McWhorter.
- The eighth inning got adventurous as the Eagles had two on with two out. A chopper to third was thrown away, allowing two runs to score. A base hit followed to give the Eagles a two-run lead.

- Zach Taglieri was effective in his first start of the season. The junior allowed just one unearned run on three hits and five strikeouts over 4.0 innings.
- Alex Bialakis allowed just two hits and struck out one over 2.0 shutout innings.
- Dylan Spence (2-7) took the loss after allowing three runs, one earned, on two hits, a walk and a hit batter.
- Wesley Lane led the offense by going 3-for-4 with a run scored.
- The three hits were a career high. He also stole his first base of his career.
- Tyler Corbitt collected two hits, both doubles, driving in one and scoring another.
- Corbitt now has five doubles in the two games against the Eagles.
- Nick Jones (2-1) was credited with the win after allowing just one hit and striking out five over 2.0 shutout innings.
