CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel basketball team was able to hang tough with Wofford for just over a half, but the Terriers used 43 points in the second half to secure a 79-56 Southern Conference win at McAlister Field House Wednesday night.

KEY STATS
- Making his first start of the season, junior Derek Webster, Jr. gave the Bulldogs a quick, 2-0 lead under a minute in with a put-back layup, but Wofford's Trevor Stumpe responded on the other end with a 3-pointer.
- The two teams kept it close for the entire half with Wofford only able to manage a couple of eight-point leads.
- With 12:37 left in the opening period, Kaiden Rice hit one of his team-high three treys to pull the 'Dogs to within one of the Terriers at 12-11, but a short burst from the Terriers stretched the lead back out.
- Chevez Goodwin, who went 11-for-12 from the field and 3-for-4 at the free throw line, converted a pair of free throws with 7:08 left to play in the first half, giving the Terriers one of their eight-point leads (23-15).
- Fletcher Abee had the answer on the other end with a 3-pointer, and a couple of possessions later, Rice made it a two-point, 23-21 game with his second trey of the night.
- Wofford was able to hold on to the lead for the final minutes of the first half, and after Kaelon Harris hit the second of a pair of free throws, pulling the 'Dogs to within four of the Terriers, Nathan Hoover hit a floating jumper from just outside the paint to beat the buzzer and give Wofford a six-point, 36-30 advantage heading into halftime.
- Freshman Stephen Clark opened the second half with a layup to cut into the lead, but Wofford once again had the answer, extending the lead out to double digits for the first time when Goodwin hit a pair of free throws to make it 49-38 nearly eight minutes into the second half.
- From there, Wofford steadily added to the lead with small scoring spurts.
- Wofford out-scored the Bulldogs 43-26 in the second half.
- The Citadel shot 33.9% (19-of-56) for the game, including 36.7% (11-of-30) in the second half.
- Wofford shot 56.9% (33-of-58) from the field.
- Both teams struggled from long range with Wofford converting seven of its 26 3-point attempts (.269) compared to 6-of-28 (.214) for the Bulldogs.
- Rice led the Bulldogs with 15 points, including a trio of 3-pointers.
- Abee was second on the team with eight points, including a pair of treys.
- Goodwin led all scorers with 25 points, adding eight rebounds.
NOTES
- Clark made his first-career start Wednesday evening. He played just 16 minutes, shooting 3-for-7 (.429) from the field for six points.
- All nine Bulldogs who played scored.
- Rice eclipsed the 700-point mark for his career. He currently boasts 714 career points and 163 made 3-pointers.
- With his three assists Wednesday against Wofford, Tyson Batiste cracked the top 15 in program history for assists in a single season. Batiste's 120 assists match Ashton Moore's 2013-14 campaign for 13th all-time.
- With his two made 3-pointers, Abee moved up another spot in the freshman record book. The Morganton, North Carolina native is now in sole possession of ninth with 51 made treys. He surpassed Lawrence Miller's 2011-12 season. He is just two made 3-pointers away from eighth and four away from seventh.
- With his eight points scored, Abee boasts 233 for the year. He is just 24 points away from breaking into the top 15 in program history for points scored be a freshman.
COMING UP
The Bulldogs will once again hit the road, this time for a pair of games in Georgia and North Carolina. The 'Dogs first travel to Mercer on Saturday, Feb. 1 for a 4:30 p.m. tipoff in Macon. The Citadel will then travel to Greensboro, North Carolina to take on UNC Greensboro at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 5.

Fans attending ticketed athletic events at The Citadel this year are reminded of the new clear bag policy that has been implemented. Under the policy, fans will be allowed to bring with them a clear plastic, vinyl or PVC bag that does not exceed 12 inches by 6 inches by 12 inches, or a one-gallon plastic bag (such as Ziploc or Hefty bags).
