Bulldogs Hold Second Scrimmage

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel football team conducted its second scrimmage Saturday afternoon inside Johnson Hagood Stadium.

I thought we showed a lot of progress out here from where we were last week," said head coach Brent Thompson. "I thought we moved the ball on offense and our defense was flying around and getting key stops.

The defense wasted little time in making a big play. On the opening drive, Destin Mack intercepted a pass on a deep ball down the middle.

The turnover was just the first for the defense as All-American linebacker Willie Eubanks III was able to force a fumble a couple drives later.

The offense got going on the next possession as Brandon Rainey found Raleigh Webb on a deep touchdown pass down the sideline. The duo would connect on a second touchdown strike a short time later.

"All in all, I think Brandon operated better than he did last week," said Thompson. "I also thought Jaylan improved and did a good job as the number two quarterback."

The Bulldogs ran about 125 plays and were able to get work for all of the roster.
Â
"We are not where we need to be to play a game right now," said Thompson. "We still have two weeks until we need to be ready to play a game. We will ramp things this week to make sure we are ready for Sept. 12."
