Bulldogs Close Out 2021 Season at Home

GAME NOTES

CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Citadel closes out the 2021 season with a three-game series against Western Carolina on May 20-21. The series gets underway Thursday at noon, and concludes with a 10:30 a.m. doubleheader on Friday.

vs. Western Carolina
The Citadel and Western Carolina are meeting for their second series of the season. The teams met in Cullowhee in March with the Catamounts sweeping the doubleheader. The third game of the series was rained out.


Brown Earns Player of the Week Honor
Center fielder Jeffery Brown was named the Southern Conference Offensive Player of the Week after going 10-for-18 with three RBIs, three stolen bases and seven runs scored in four games last week.


Ninth-Inning Comeback
The Citadel scored three runs in the top of the ninth inning to rally for the 8-7 victory over Mercer. It marked the second victory this season when trailing after eight innings. It marks the first time since the 2016 that the Bulldogs have won two games when trailing after eight innings.


Cooper Shuts Down Mercer
Reliever Chace Cooper gave the Bulldogs the opportunity to defeat Mercer as the freshman allowed an unearned run on just one hit over the final 4.0 innings. He needed only five pitches to set the side down in order to close out the game.


Brown Has a Big Day
Jeffery Brown had a big day in the doubleheader against Mercer as he went 7-for-10 with three RBIs and five runs scored. His biggest hit came in the ninth inning of the second game when he delivered a two-run single to tie the game.


McCarthy Reaches Double Digits
Ryan McCarthy hit his 10th home run of the season against Mercer. He is the first Bulldog since Jonathan Sabo in 2017 to reach double figures in home runs.


The Long Ball
The Citadel has 33 home runs during the season. It is the most long balls in a season since the 2017 team finished with 33 homers.
