BIRMINGHAM, ALA. – The Citadel was inches away from a season sweep at Samford Monday night when
Tyler Moffe's 3-point attempt in the closing seconds rimmed out to finish on the short end of a 76-74 score.

How it Happened
- After Samford's opening jumper, The Citadel issued 11 straight points and 14 of the next 17 to take the largest lead of the game up by nine at 14-5.
- Samford quickly caught up, setting into motion the back-and-forth competition.
- For the second straight game, The Citadel's hopes of leading at halftime were thwarted at the first half horn when Quinn Richey drilled a 3-point buzzer beater to tie things up at 37-37.
- Neither side held more than a one-possession lead through the first 13-and-a-half minutes of the second half before Samford inched ahead on a Ques Glover jumper to lead by five at 69-64 with 6:24 remaining.
- The Citadel answered with an 8-3 run, with a Jason Roche three and a pair of Hayden Brown free throws nailing down a 72-72 tie with three minutes left.
- Glover responded with a stepback jumper, then Logan Dye delivered a second-change layup to give Samford a two-possession lead back at 76-72.
- A noisy, but fruitless possessions by both teams kept it at 76-72 before Clark powered through the lane to bring it within one possession with 45 seconds remaining.
- Samford's ensuing possession resulted in jump ball, as Glover's desperation shot to beat the shot gave final possession to The Citadel.

- Hayden Brown 26th career double-double finished at 17 points and his second-highest rebounding total of his career with 19. He's totaled 37 rebounds the past two games, adding in his 18-rebound performance Saturday versus ETSU for the honor of becoming the first Citadel Bulldog to post back-to-back games with at least 18 rebounds.
- The would-be, game-winning three prevented Tyler Moffe from garnering his third straight 20-point game, finishing with a team-best 18 points, while posting four assists and four rebounds. He and David Maynard each had three 3-pointers to tie for the game lead, with Maynard finishing with 12 points and six rebounds.
- Stephen Clark was a notable figure in sparking The Citadel, logging 12 points, eight rebounds, and four blocks.
- The Citadel committed its third consecutive game under 40 percent at 38.8 (26-of-67). They finished with the same number of threes and free throws, going 11-of-36 from beyond the arc and 11-of-21 at the line.

Rising Through the Ranks!
- Jason Roche tied Travis Cantrell (2001-02) for third all-time in school history with 102 made threes in one season. The all-time record is 114 set by Matt Frierson in 2017-18. Roche's total from behind the arc leads all NCAA Division I among freshmen.
- Hayden Brown's 26th career double-double puts him two away from passing the all-time record of 27 set by Mike Groselle (2009-13). His rebounding display Saturday moved him into fourth all-time with 698 rebounds, passing Regan Truesdale's total of 688 from 1981-85. Brown's moved into 11th all-time with 1,327 career points, passing both Patrick Elmore (1983-84, 88-90) and Zach Urbanus' (2007-11) points log of 1,321. His 19 rebounds against Samford is second only to his 21 boards versus Columbia International on Dec. 7, 2020.
- Stephen Clark's four blocks catapulted him into second all-time with 67 blocks in one season, passing Kirill Misyuchenko's 1995-96 total and sitting tied with the same's 1997-98 total. Clark stands fourth with 129 career blocks.
