BOONE, N.C. – The Citadel's Dazjon Casto secured a takedown late in the match and held on to secure the 2022 Southern Conference Championship at 157 pounds.
 
Casto will be joined in Detroit by heavyweight Michael McAleavey who secured the automatic bid with a runner-up finish.
 
Additionally, Ben Haubert came back to win the consolation bracket and finish in third place at 174 pounds.

How it Happened

• Dazjon Casto won all three of his matches as the No. 1 seed in the tournament
• Casto eased his way to a tech fall victory in the opening round, before advancing on injury in the semifinals. He was ahead 8-4 in the second period when his opponent was forced out due to injury.
• In the championship match, Casto used a takedown in the last minute, and then controlled his opponent in the final seconds to secure his ticket to Detroit.
• Michael McAleavey also punched his ticket to Detroit as he advanced to the championship match.
• He nearly secured a takedown late in the match, but it was ruled out of bounds. He would later fall in sudden victory, but receive the second allocation for the division based on ranking.
• Ben Haubert opened his tournament with an upset victory before falling in the semifinals.
• He would respond by winning a pair of matches in the consolation bracket to finish in 3^rd place at 174 pounds.
