Notes on the Bulldogs
- The Citadel heads to the Husker Invitational, hosted by the University of Nebraska. The Bulldogs will face #2 Nebraska on Thursday. On Friday, The Citadel will compete against Montana State and Denver.
- The Bulldogs went 2-1 at the Crimson Tide Invitational with wins over UT Martin (3-2) and Grambling State (3-0).
- Mackenzie Martin led the Bulldogs in kills this past weekend with 48. She set a career-high in kills as a Bulldog with 21 against UT Martin.
- Jaelynn Elgert surpassed 1,000 career digs against UT Martin.
- Newcomers Sophie Childs and Aaliyah Byers introduced themselves to the starting lineup. Childs recorded 29 kills, and Byers recorded 20 kills with 12 total blocks.
- Freshman Rachel Reininger and Jess Martin made their collegiate debuts. Reininger served six aces, and Martin recorded 11 digs.
Scouting Nebraska
The Cornhuskers are 3-1 overall, with a recent loss against SMU. Nebraska opened the season with a 3-1 win over #9 Kentucky. Harper Murray leads the Cornhuskers with 39 kills, followed by Merritt Beason and Lindsay Krause at 34 and Andi Jackson at 31. Defensively, Lexi Rodriguez anchors the defense with 53 digs, and Rebekah Allick with 22 total blocks. This will be the first match-up between both teams in both program's history.
Scouting Montana State
The Bobcats are heading into the Husker Invitational with a 1-1 overall record. They lost to Washington and won against Middle Tennessee State. Camryn Greenwald leads Montana State with 22 kills and 13 total blocks. Montana State will face Denver before taking on the Bulldogs on Sept. 5. This will be the first match-up between the two teams.
Scouting Denver
The Pioneers are 1-2 heading into the weekend with two losses against Utah Tech and a win against Weber State. Ava Reynolds (35) and Jada Hamer (32) lead the Pioneers offensively with the most kills. Molly Mirabelli anchors the defense with 15 total blocks, while Alayna Finucan contributes 53 digs. This will be the second time both teams have matched with each other since 2012, when Denver defeated The Citadel 3-1.
