Grantham’s Late Equalizer Earns Bulldogs a 1–1 Draw at UNCG

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Citadel women's soccer team battled to a 1–1 draw on the road Thursday evening against UNC Greensboro at UNCG Soccer Stadium. With the result, the Bulldogs move to 5–6–3 overall and 2–3–2 in Southern Conference play, while the Spartans stand at 3–9–3 and 2–2–3 in the league.

After a tightly contested opening half that saw limited opportunities on both ends, UNCG broke through in the 82nd minute when Bryanna Parkes found the back of the net from close range to give the hosts a 1–0 advantage.

The Bulldogs wasted no time responding, just two minutes later, sophomore Samantha Grantham delivered the equalizer in the 84th minute, slotting home a rebound to make it 1–1 and shift momentum back in The Citadel's favor. The goal marked Grantham's second of the season. Goalkeeper Zoe Santos anchored the back line with seven saves, including several crucial stops in the first half to keep the match scoreless. Offensively, The Citadel generated six total shots, with Grantham accounting for four of them, while the Bulldogs also earned a 5–2 edge in corner kicks.

Traquair's Thoughts
"This group has been so resilient all year," said head coach Ciaran Traquair. "We worked hard to apply pressure on the ball on a really big pitch and deserved to be in the game for long spells. We started tiring near the end, but the girls found a way to get a goal after conceding late in the match. It was another great moment for the team and another point on the board. Onwards to Sunday."

Up Next
