CHARLESTON, S.C. — The Citadel (6-3-4, 1-2-2 SoCon) fell to Furman (8-3-2, 3-0-1 SoCon) via a 5-0 final mark Sunday afternoon at Washington Light Infantry Field.

Furman finished with a 23-8 advantage in shots and placed 14 attempts on goal, while The Citadel put three of its eight shots on frame. The Paladins also held a 7-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Senior goalkeeper Zoe Santos made six saves across 65:27 of action before Aliana Banner entered in the second half and recorded three saves over the final 24:33.

"Game two of a doubleheader weekend is usually quite a tight matchup, but the freshness Furman had was just too much for us on the day," head coach Ciaran Traquair said. "We weren't at our best, but we continued to battle and tried to create a few openings. It got away from us at the end, but it's a great chance to reflect on what we can do better in certain moments, as well as how we approach the second game of doubleheader weekends. We'll regroup and enjoy some much-needed recovery before we go to Western Carolina next week."

First Half
- Furman opened the scoring in the 17th minute when Bri Pinasco found the back of the net at the 16:17 mark.
- Caelynn January created a pair of chances midway through the half, forcing a save in the 28th minute before hitting the woodwork less than two minutes later.
- Furman doubled its advantage at 35:24 as Jaleah Simmons scored off an assist from Ellie Herrmann.
- The Citadel recorded six shots in the opening 45 minutes, with January putting two attempts on frame.

Second Half
- Santos made four saves over the opening 14 minutes of the second half to keep the Bulldogs within two.
- Samantha Grantham put an attempt on goal in the 63rd minute before striking the frame in the 71st.
- Kate Kuzemka extended Furman's advantage at 66:01 before adding her second goal of the match at 73:28.
- Simmons closed out the scoring at 75:42 with her second goal of the afternoon.
- Banner recorded three saves after entering in goal, including a pair of stops over the final three minutes.

Up next, The Citadel travels to Western Carolina on Sunday, Oct. 11 in a continuation of Southern Conference play.
