Bulldogs Add 2027 Road Matchup at Virginia Tech

BLACKSBURG, Va. -- The Citadel and Virginia Tech have agreed to schedule a non-conference matchup between the two football programs early during the 2027 season on Saturday, Aug. 28, per an official announcement Tuesday afternoon.
"We're excited for the opportunity to open the 2027 season at Virginia Tech," head coach Maurice Drayton said. "It's a great challenge against an outstanding ACC program and the type of opportunity that helps our team grow. We appreciate Virginia Tech for making this game possible, and we look forward to competing in Blacksburg."
The contest serves as the first meeting between the Bulldogs and Hokies since the 1953 campaign, a series VT leads via a 2-0 margin. Additionally, the game represents the second consecutive season The Citadel will travel to a fellow senior military college for a non-conference clash in the wake of the Bulldogs' 2026 trek to College Station, Texas, to battle Texas A&M on Saturday, Oct. 17.
Notably, The Citadel will square off with all three fellow Division I senior military colleges -- Texas A&M on Oct. 17, 2026, Southern Conference rival VMI on Nov. 14, 2026 and Virginia Tech on Aug. 28, 2027 -- within the span of one year.
Kickoff time, television designation and ticket information for the Aug. 28 contest will be announced at a later date.
