Coach Del Harris is entering his second season as an assistant coach on Ed Conroy’s staff at The Citadel, bringing more than two decades of coaching, player development, and program-building experience across the high school, collegiate, and grassroots levels.
Prior to returning to the Division I ranks, Harris spent eight years (2015–2024) as the head boys’ basketball coach and program leader at Collegiate School in Richmond, Virginia. During his tenure, he guided the Cougars to over 100 wins in one of the top Division I private school leagues in the state, leading the program to two conference championship appearances, one regular season title, and three state tournament appearances. He coached 14 All-Conference players, one league MVP, and one ESPN Top 100 prospect.
In addition to his work at Collegiate, Harris operated Del Harris Basketball, hosting camps, mentoring student-athletes, and leading community outreach initiatives throughout the Richmond area.
At the collegiate level, Harris served as head coach and assistant athletics director at Vassar College (2008–2013). His Division I coaching background includes roles at the University of Richmond (administrative assistant, 2004–2005), Virginia Military Institute (assistant coach, 2005–2006), and Morgan State (assistant coach, 2007–2008).
Harris has also been a long-standing figure in grassroots basketball as the director and head coach of Team Richmond on the Hoop Group/Adidas circuit. Across two stints (2001–2004, 2015–2024), he has helped develop and place more than 100 players in Division I, II, and III programs.
Nationally, Harris has worked extensively with USA Basketball’s Youth Development initiatives, serving as an on-court coach at regional academies and USAB Gold Camps. In 2019, he was selected as an on-court training camp coach for the USA Basketball U16 National Team, working with future NBA players such as Jalen Duren (Detroit Pistons), Grady Dick (Toronto Raptors), and Max Christie (Los Angeles Lakers).
In the summer of 2024, Harris was chosen as part of an elite group of Division I assistant coaches to participate in the Jay Bilas Leadership Program in Charlotte, North Carolina. From 2021–2024, he also worked alongside ESPN National Recruiting Director Paul Biancardi at evaluation and skills camps, while serving as an on-court coach at the NCAA Basketball Academies (2022–2024).
A native of Virginia, Harris was an all-state and all-region player at Fork Union Military Academy (1996) and graduated from Virginia State University in 2001 with a degree in Health and Physical Education.
