CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel volleyball team begins its first Southern Conference road series this weekend when the Bulldogs head to Chattanooga and Samford as they look for their first league victory in 2014.
Â
The Citadel (5-11, 0-2 SoCon), which opens at Chattanooga on Friday at 7 p.m., is looking to halt a three-match losing streak that began on Sept. 20 at South Carolina. Among those setbacks include a pair of losses last weekend against Mercer and Wofford at McAlister Field House.
Â
Leading the way for the Cadets are
Bailey Kernodle (128 kills),
Amanda Rudnik (208 digs) and
Lauren Hurt (31 total blocks). Kernodle has made her impact felt on both sides of the ball for The Citadel with three double-doubles on the season.
Â
Chattanooga (7-10, 0-2) has dropped its last three matches to UT-Martin, Samford and East Tennessee State. Kristy Wieser leads the Mocs in both kills (159) and digs (206), while Nicole Sumida has contributed 46 total blocks to highlight the Chattanooga front row.
Â
The weekend concludes with a 7 p.m. match on Saturday at Samford (6-7, 1-0), which has emerged with victories in three of its last four matches including a 3-1 victory over Chattanooga last weekend. The Bulldogs are led offensively by Michaela Reesor (160 kills) and Erin Bognar (125). Meanwhile, the combination of Chelsi Carter (167 digs), Gabbi Greenwald (25 total blocks) and TJ Russell (25 total blocks) anchor the defense.
