The Citadel Hosts Western Carolina, Furman in Volleyball Action

CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Citadel volleyball team makes its final home appearance in October this weekend when it welcomes Western Carolina and Furman to McAlister Field House.

The Citadel (6-18, 0-9 Southern Conference) opens with a match against Western Carolina on Friday at 6 p.m. as the Bulldogs look to avenge a three-set loss to the Catamounts suffered on Oct. 12 in Cullowhee, N.C.

The Dogs return to the court on Saturday at 3 p.m. they go head-to-head with Upstate rival Furman for the first time in 2014 and 30th time in program history.

Junior Bailey Kernodle, with team-high 188 kills to her credit, is one of five Bulldogs to top 100 kills on the campaign. Meanwhile, The Citadel's defensive attack is anchored by seniors Amanda Rudnik (252 digs) and Lauren Hurt (15 solo blocks / 50 total blocks).

Western Carolina (12-11, 5-4 SoCon) enters the weekend on a five-match winning streak that began on Oct. 11 against East Tennessee State. Four of the five wins during that stretch for the Catamounts came in five-set affairs including wins over Furman, Mercer and UNCG.

A pair of losses to Western Carolina and Samford last week dropped Furman to 13-6 overall and 6-2 in SoCon play. However, the Paladins have built an impressive resume this season that includes wins over South Carolina, Clemson, Weber State and Gonzaga.

The matches will be streamed live on SoCon Digital Network.
