CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Citadel volleyball team looks to avenge a pair of losses suffered earlier this month when it takes to the road this weekend to face Mercer and Wofford.
The Citadel (7-20, 0-11 Southern Conference) opens the weekend with a match against SoCon newcomer Mercer on Friday at 6 p.m. That will be followed by a showdown with in-state rival Wofford on Saturday at 3 p.m.
The Bulldogs, who recently snapped a seven-match losing streak, are led offensively by
Bailey Kernodle (204 kills) and
Dominique Williams (146). Meanwhile, The Citadel defense is anchored by
Amanda Rudnik (262 digs),
Lauren Hurt (16 solo blocks / 52 total blocks) and Williams (40 assisted blocks).
Mercer (8-16, 3-7 SoCon) has rebounded from a tough opening of October, when it dropped three straight, to win three of its last four matches including five-set victories over Wofford and Chattanooga. The Bears are led offensively by Molly Locke (310 kills), who is averaging 3.44 kills per set. The sparkplugs on defense are the duo of Tori Penrod (394 digs) and Cara Tripp (69 total blocks).
Wofford (11-15, 3-6 SoCon) is also looking to snap out of a late season slump, which included seven losses during October, and win its fifth match at home this season. Senior Taylor Baird (338 kills) is the leader for the Terriers' offensive attack, while Jessica Graham (421 digs) and Danni Densford (60 total blocks) are the defensive sparkplugs.
